September Coastal Getaways

Rachel Adams

As the summer crowds begin to wane, St Ives transforms into a tranquil haven for those seeking a more peaceful escape. Nestled on the picturesque Cornish coastline, St Ives offers an idyllic setting for a September holiday.

With its stunning beaches, vibrant art scene, and rich cultural heritage, St Ives provides a perfect blend of relaxation and adventure. Whether you're drawn to the serene landscapes, walks along the Cornish coastline, or the myriad of outdoor activities, St Ives in September promises an unforgettable experience.

Blissful beach days

September holds some of the best beach days, that’s right… even better than July and August. First of all, it is quieter compared to the previous months giving you more options on where to set-up your base on the pristine sand. Secondly, the sea temperatures remain high after soaking up the warmth from the summer months, making it a comfortable temperature for swimmers and surfers. The water conditions in September are generally great for surfers too thanks to the consistent Atlantic swells.

Dog restrictions also lift at the end of August on Porthgwidden Beach and the Harbour so your furry friend will have more beaches to explore when you enjoy a holiday in St Ives in September.

Whether you're looking to catch the perfect wave, build sandcastles with the children, or simply bask in the late summer sunshine, the beaches of St Ives offer a perfect coastal retreat in September.

Countless Coastal walks

Exploring our beautiful coastline is a perfect way to enjoy your time in Cornwall. Whether you prefer a “stroll” (perhaps its slightly more than a stroll!) along the coastal path, or fancy a challenge by dusting off your walking boots to exploring the rugged coastline between St Ives and Zennor, St Ives is the perfect base for exploring on foot. Just be careful as the coastal path can be unsteady with its uneven terrain.

The beauty of our coastline is there is not one perfect route, there are plenty. Here I am going mention some of the teams favourites:

 St Ives to Zennor

Although overall this walk is a long and challenging one, it is arguably one of the most scenic.  The suggested walk is a circular walk that hugs the coastline allowing you to take in the picturesque views and viewpoints along the way. The route back is more inland allowing you to soak up the inland beauty that Cornwall has to offer.

St Ives to Carbis Bay (and beyond)

This walk is considerably shorter than the route to Zennor. The St Ives to Carbis Bay coast path is a more leisurely coastal walk, approximately 2-miles along the stunning coastline. The path is very clearly marked. If you want to take your walk further you can also continue along the costal path to Lelant – with this route there is the option to catch the 10-minute branch line back from Lelant station to St Ives. This train line is arguably one of the prettiest in the UK, we highly recommend trying to work it into your holiday if you can.

The Island

Located a very short walk from our luxury apartments in St Ives, The Island is a small grassy peninsula connected to the mainland between Porthmeor and Porthgwidden Beach. It provides panoramic views of both St Ives Town and the coast and provides an ideal look-out for wildlife spotting - a hump-back whale has been spotted off The Island numerous times this year - or simply find an empty bench and watch the sunrise or sunset in one of St Ives’ most tranquil spots.

Coastal Wildlife

While taking in the beauty of St Ives and the surrounding coastal towns and views, you should keep an eye out for local wildlife. This includes seabirds that nest on the Cornish cliffs and friendly grey-seals that you might spot swimming near the shore, or sunning themselves on rocks.

September, with its late summer sunshine, quieter pace and generally mild climate continues to be one of the best times to visit St Ives. So, if you have some free time in your diary this September why not fill it in St Ives? You can check availability in our luxury St Ives accommodation here.

We hope to see you soon,
