Best Dog Friendly Places | October Half Term
September is now entering the scene leaving behind another beautiful Summer in St Ives. Whilst we are already feeling nostalgic about the warm sunny days, our four-legged friend will be very pleased to know that all dogs ban are lifted from the end of September which means that they will now be allowed on all beaches across Cornwall. To make sure that everyone makes the most of their time in Cornwall, we prepared for you 10 fantastic places to go for a doggy walk.
1) Godrevy Beach
Famous for its Lighthouse, Godrevy Beach is a beautiful stretch of sand which makes the perfect playground for your dog. There is a few parking options on Gwithian where you will be able to walk across Uptown Towans to get to the beach as this walk offers the best sea view and will be great fun for your dog. From the car park, treat yourself to a tasty lunch at the Sunset Surf before heading towards the Lighthouse where you may even spot a couple of seals still enjoying the rays of sunshine.
2) St Ives Harbour
If you are staying in St Ives, walking your dog on the beach first thing in the morning with a warm cup of coffee in hand is a real treat. When the tide is out, Lambeth Walk Beach, located just behind the pier, reveals plenty of sand for your furry friend to stretch his legs. Only a few minutes from the Sail Lofts luxury accommodation, this walk on the beach will get everyone in a good mood to start the day.
3) Hayle Estuary
From St Erth roundabout, head towards Hayle instead of taking the A30 and the road will take you to the entrance of the Estuary on your left. Located just past St Georges Walk (another dreamy dog-friendly place) this beach will offer plenty of room for your four-legged friend to enjoy himself and is usually quieter even during high season.
4) Gunwalloe Beach - The Lizard
Only 15 minutes from Helston, Gunwalloe Beach is a lovely place to visit when the sun goes down. If you are planning for a barbecue or a picnic on a evening during your holiday, this is a good location to keep in mind as it becomes fairly quiet in the evening and your dog will be able to run around freely.
5) Tehidy Woods
Only a 20 minutes drive from our 5* holiday cottage in St Ives, this magical place will quickly become your favourite place to go with your four-legged friend to relax and unwind from your daily routine. Many events are taking place here throughout the year and there are many ways to explore the area with 5 different entrances and 9 miles of paths across the woods. If you are coming from St Ives, you will be able to easily find your way to North Cliffs car park where your journey will begin through the high trees where many other dogs are having the time of their life too.
6) Godolphin Estate
If you are thinking of heading towards the Lizard for a visit, there might be a few places on the way you would be interested in. Part of the National Trust, Godolphin Estate is located passed Townsend before Helston. This fantastic park holds a beautiful castle in the center and plenty of green areas for everyone to enjoy on a sunny October day.
7) Penrose Estate
This dog-friendly park will be another of your new dog's favourite place to go. Filled with many other dogs, this amazing park has many paths which will take you all the way to Porthleven if you are planning a good hike from Helston. A short 15 minutes walk from the car park will take you to the National Trust cafe with plenty of options for you to grab a drink and discover Penrose garden or carry on your walk towards Loe Bar.
8) Stithians Lake
This lake offers a great day out for the whole family whether you intend to go in the water or not. With a sailing school on site, take the opportunity to explore the location from the water or simply follow the 4.8 miles of footpaths on foot or on your bike if you are in for a bit of exercise with your furry friend.
9) Carn Brea Castle
Located just next to Camborne on top of Carn Brea Hill, this place is not known of many people however there are plenty of trails and footpaths to discover. From the castle, head down to the rocks and admire a breath taking 360º view across Cornwall from St Ives to the other side. If you are looking for something different for dinner, Carn Brea Castle is a Jordianian restaurant set in a medieval atmosphere which will bring you a unique experience.
10) Coastal paths
As many know, Cornwall is a fantastic place to come on holiday with your furry friend. From St Just to Newquay, coastal paths are everywhere for you to discover the beauty this county has to offer. There is plenty of options for you to walk along the coast and admire the sea from different angles.
