Days Out From St Ives
It goes without saying that here is nowhere better than St Ives for stunning beach walks and independent boutique shopping, however if you are staying with us for a little longer, perhaps consider exploring further afield this winter. January and February are quiet months in Cornwall, allowing for peaceful coastal walks and far less crowds and queuing than in the summer months.
Falmouth
Falmouth lies on the Southern Cornish coast less than an hour away from your luxury St Ives apartment and is well worth the trip. Though driving is the easiest option, it is also possible to reach this pretty seaside town by train. Much like St Ives, Falmouth boasts a beautiful old-fashioned high street full of independent shops, cafes and boutiques, as well as several brilliant restaurants on the seafront. The Maritime Museum on Falmouth’s historic docks is also well worth a visit – the museum has lots of child friendly activities. The museum displays maritime objects from the past to tell the local, national and international history of humanity’s relationship with the sea.
The Eden Project
A day at the famous Eden Project will certainly be one to remember! The Eden Project is also a safe bet on rainy days as you can explore the biomes and the incredible array of tropical plants inside them without getting soaked. Eden boasts three different climatic zones and nearly two million plants – easily enough to keep you occupied all day! The Eden Project’s annual ice rink is still in use until the 24th of February. As the only indoor ice rink in Cornwall, it’s the best chance to get your skates on in the sometimes unreliable winter weather. The rink is open for all ages and has penguin aids designed to help young children enjoy their first times on the ice! Eden is also hosting an exhibition on bees this winter in a bid to encourage more people to help save this vital species.
National Trust Gardens
Undeniably, one of the best things about visiting Cornwall out of season is enjoying the tranquility the quieter season offers. Though the flowers are at their best in springtime, Cornwall’s mild climate ensures that there are always plenty of thriving plants to see all year around. Pay a visit to favourites Heligan (near St Austell) and Trebah (near Falmouth) who are open all year round. Explore the beautiful and peaceful gardens under the winter sun, then visit the cafes on site for a warming mug of hot chocolate after your walk.
