Hitting the water in St Ives
With the summer season is in full swing here in St Ives, days at the beach are definitely on the agenda! Plus, this is a perfect opportunity to get your swimwear on and discover St Ives and our surrounding Cornish coastline from the crystal-clear waters themselves. Why not consider hiring a paddleboard, surf board or kayak to explore the beautiful Cornish coast? Luckily St Ives and the surrounding area has plenty of places to hire equipment to enjoy a delightful day at sea.
Sail Lofts Bellyboards
Here at Sail Lofts, we offer our very own authentic and sustainable wooden bellyboards which are free for our guests to borrow from the onsite wet room. As well as being the traditional way to take on the waves, wooden bellyboards are more sustainable than plastic and polystyrene boards, allowing us to minimise plastic usage and help protect our marine life.
If you fancy giving one of our belly boards a try whilst enjoying the Cornish waves, this short ‘how-to’ will give you the basics to get you started.
St Ives Watersports Ltd
Located on the harbour front, St Ives Watersports offers a wide range of water sports equipment to hire for all the family to enjoy. This includes single, double and quad kayaks as well as stand-up paddleboards. The kayaks are also suitable for dogs so your four-legged friend can also enjoy some time on the water!
The company also provide a designated area in which to paddle board and kayak in which is patrolled by safety boats. However, once everyone is feeling confident why not take your journey further afield and explore St Ives by water.
There is also the option to hire a self-drive motor boat to explore the coast is you wish – these are also dog friendly too and no experience is necessary to take them out.
St Ives Surf School, located on Porthmeor and Porthminster Beach, provide rentals of surfboards, paddle boards and kayak equipment. A vast range of surfboards, wetsuits and bodyboards are readily available from their surf HQ on Porthmeor beach, whereas all of your paddleboard and kayak needs are catered for on the calmer shores of Porthminster.
St Ives Surf School also offers plenty of lessons for all levels and abilities however we do recommend booking ahead as lessons get booked up quickly.
Located slightly further along the coast at Carbis Bay, the Ocean Sports Centre provides equipment rental for various water activities, including kayaks, paddleboards and a mega SUP, perfect for everyone to climb onboard.
As well as offering board and wetsuit hire, the Ocean Sports Centre also offer group and private lessons as well as guided tours.
Staying with us at Sail Lofts
