A Perfect Summer’s Day in St Ives
Summer Holidays in St Ives
Sparkling seas, warm white sand, days spent on the beach and long balmy evenings - it's not hard to see why so many love to spend their summer holiday in St Ives. And with last year's incredible weather fresh in our minds, we are so looking forward to all that St Ives has to offer during these amazing months. The Sail Lofts boasts 12 luxury cottages in the heart of St Ives, where beaches, coastal paths and the town centre are all just minutes away. If you're in need of some inspiration for a summer's day in St Ives, read on for some of our ideas for an idyllic day.
Breakfast
Start the day right and treat yourself to a hearty breakfast - it is the most important meal of the day! Our friends at the Cornish Deli have put together a breakfast hamper full of delicious, Cornish goods that can be arranged prior to your arrival and will be waiting in your luxury cottage for that first morning's breakfast. If you're eager to get out and about, take the short walk to Porthgwidden or Porthminster Beach Cafe and enjoy breakfast with freshly ground coffee and unparalleled views.
The Art
Embrace the elements with 'Draw St Ives', an outdoor drawing experience guided by Barnoon Workshops. They'll take you to special spots around St Ives and provide tips and techniques on capturing what you see. Barnoon Workshops overlooks Porthmeor beach and is just a couple of minutes away from the Sail Lofts luxury cottages. As our guests you and your party can also enjoy free admission to both the Tate Gallery and The Barbara Hepworth Museum. Both are very much worth a visit, however Barbara Hepworth's serene sculpture garden is particularly beautiful on a fine day.
The beach
A day at the beach is fun for all the family and with Porthmeor on our door-step there are no tiresome, up-hill hikes with armfuls of beach equipment. Each of our luxury cottages comes equipped with windbreaks and beach towels and our wet room is stocked with body boards, buckets and spades so you can pack a little lighter too! If basking in the sun and exploring rock pools isn't enough, why not give surfing or paddling boarding a go? You'll be in the more than capable hands of St Ives Surf School and as our guests you get 10% off all activities (not to be used alongside other promotions).
St Ives Gin
For a light bite with a different dazzling view, check out the SILCo Searoom on the harbour front. We thoroughly recommend a bowl of their triple cooked garlic chips as the perfect snack to soak up a St Ives G&T (or two...) whilst watching the boats from the sun drenched Wharf. The Thompson Brothers make every small batch of St Ives gin just a couple of miles away in Zennor, foraging for and using as many local botanicals as possible. The result is a gin with a difference and a must try if you're in St Ives. Similarly, you can expect a menu full of fresh Cornish produce that's been imaginatively prepared on the premises, from homemade hummus to meatballs and mussels. The SILCo Searoom can be reached by walking all the way along The Wharf in the direction of Smeatons Pier, or by heading out of your luxury cottage and round past Porthgwidden beach towards the harbour.
Sunset dining at Porthmeor Beach Cafe
For an evening well spent with friends, family and of course, food, you couldn't dream of a better place than a pod at Porthmeor Cafe. If there are no pods available (they get booked up quickly) then there is plenty more seating on both terraces - the attentive staff will have blankets at the ready for when the sun starts to dip and you'll have the best view in town. Enjoying beachside tapas accompanied by some drinks as the sun sets is most certainly a memory you'll treasure.
