A dog friendly day out in Cornwall
Dog friendly all year-round
Saturdays are days for spending time with family, friends and man’s best friend, so this Saturday we popped along to our favourite year round dog friendly spot, just outside of St Ives, in order to spend time together, away from the distractions of shops and cafés.
Starting off at Hayle's Marks and Spencer, which is only just a short drive from the Sail Lofts dog friendly accommodation, we stopped by and topped up on all of our favourite picnic must haves. Brie and cranberry sandwiches, falafel wraps, and the obligatory chocolate éclairs (these are a family favourite if you have yet to try them…)
We then took the short drive along to Lelant, and taking a right by The Badger Inn we drove along to the parking spot outside the church and unloaded our spritely pair. Gracie our bearded collie, aka Monkey, and Flora the stately Airedale, ready for a prance along the sands.
The anticipation bubbling from them as we walked them on lead down through the golf course, the sea air leading them on, under the St Ives branch line railway bridge and out on to the vast expanse of Porthkidney Sands.
As a family we ambled along, enjoying watching the girls make the most of the sand, sea and sun. Dashing down to the waterline, splashing along the shore, then charging back up the bank to say hello and to encourage us down to the water. Eventually we found ourselves a shaded nook in the cliff-face where we could eat our lunch, tucked out of the wind. Perfect for protecting our sarnies and not just our four legged companions - but the sand they brought with them as well!
The beach is vast, a wide-open space perfect for charging, strolling and meeting other friendly dogs, making it our favourite beach year round. It is away from the masses, a secret refuge for those that just wish to spend time with their dog during their stay at the Sail Lofts dog friendly accommodation in St Ives.
