Across the Cornish coastline
The Cornish coast is without question one of the areas in this county where your opinion of it can differ dependant on the type of person you are. Yes it goes without saying that it is a visually impressive landscape; I don’t feel this can be argued, from the smooth sandy shores to bold cliff-face, the disparity across the coast is sublime. It’s perfect - regardless of the weather (which of course is oftentimes tumultuous on the odd day) for the avid hiker or the seasoned stroller to make their way along the waters edge or up high across the cliffs boundaries. The best part is that it’s perfect for all the family, dogs included.
The Sail Lofts luxury apartments in St Ives can be your go to place for self catering, dog friendly accommodation in Cornwall, and in terms of walking you have a plethora of choice immediately as you step out the door. While a lot of Cornwall’s coastline has restrictions over dogs in over the summer months there are still some hidden gems nearby for you to take everyone out for an invigorating adventure by the sea.
If you’re interested in taking a leisurely walk through St Ives and across to Carbis Bay, just a little further along the South West Coastal Path you have Porthkidney Beach a the perfect place to relax along the Cornish coastline, only just a few miles walk from St Ives the beach is perfectly nestled in the headland, with a wide expanse of sand for your pets to run around as you’re beside the sea. The best part is it’s dog friendly all year round.
If you’re feeling courageous or are up for an exhilarating walk across the county then the coastal path from St Ives to Zennor is for you. It will take you across a small section of the expansive South West Coastal path, as a side note it’s well worth mentioning that the walk to Zennor is fairly hard going so keep this in mind before beginning the journey as you wouldn’t want to be playing catch up with your dog on these paths which twist and turn and rise and fall.
From leaving the Sail Lofts luxury apartments in St Ives you head toward Porthmeor beach and follow the coastal path signs all the way down toward Zennor, it takes you across the rugged side of the Cornish coast, both awe-inspiring and treacherous at the same time. Any reader of literature based in Cornwall will instantly recognise this landscape, the lavish green headland and stoic the setting of so many tales. Zennor itself of course has it’s own ties to the literary world, D. H. Lawrence made stay in the town for a few years, completing Women in Love before being banished, which is a story for another time. The trip to Zennor is undoubted arduous but it’s well worth the time and effort if you wish to take a look at the rural side of Cornwall. To put a bookend on the trip to Zennor why not visit the Tinners Arms for a drink and a bite to eat before beginning the expedition back toward St Ives.
If you’re looking to spend time on one of the many Cornish beaches during your stay it’s worth noting that Cornwall Council have placed restrictions on dogs during certain hours through the year, it’s well worth a look online to see locations and their suitability before taking your pets out to avoid disappointment.
