Walking Days Out in Cornwall
As the weather begins to brighten up and the rainy days of winter fade away to distant memory the variety of days out in Cornwall widen immensely. With the warmer weather well on its way the wonders of the Cornish countryside open up for an exploration of the environment. The South West is yours to discover from the miles of coastal path to the wonderful cross-country journeys that allow you to experience the rural countryside. From St Ives there are a number of directions to go; from the coastal routes to the inland treks that take you through the highlands and the lowlands of Cornwall's countryside.
St Ives
From St Ives you can head in so many directions across the coast path just off Porthmeor Beach leads you along the coastal route to Zennor. The walk is varied; sometimes it's a climb up the slopes with their rugged pathways or othertimes you're stepping over a river before entering an open clearing of grassland. It goes without saying this is a walk for those brave enough to attempt it. Navigating the coastal route is relatively straight forward, simply make your way toward the coastal route above Porthmeor Beach toward Clodgy Point, from there onward the road to Zennor is clearly sign posted with signs by the South West Coastal Path. It's without question one to take your time over; and if you're not looking to take the bus back maybe one to start early in the day.
Penzance
If a more casual, relaxed route across Cornwall's countryside is more your style then the journey from Penzance to Mousehole is perfect in the midst of a warm day. Parking in Penzance is relatively stright forward, just by the train station is the Wharfside Car Park when you can start the journey along Penzance's promenade through to Newlyn. Newlyn is a great stopoff to take a pause before continuing on to the fishing village of Mousehole. The route; which is mostly made up of pavements winds up the far edge of Newlyn before stretching out toward Mousehole. You can take in the breadth of Mount's Bay from here and on a warm, sunny afternoon the views are perfect gazing upon St. Michael's Mount as you take a break on one of the benches that are dotted across the route. At Mousehole there's a number of different places to grab something to eat or drink before heading back toward Penzance. Being only a short drive from our luxury apartments in St Ives this is an easy journey for those looking to take in Cornwall's unique landscape and is perfect for all the family.
Pendeen
For those with a historical eye looking to discover Cornwall's mining heritage then there really is no better place to visit. Pendeen is the gateway to the Tin Coast, once you arrive in the village of Pendeen the expansive stretch of mining heritage is right infront of you. In the centre of the village is a free car park, just opposite Boscaswell Stores. It's the perfect place to start you're journey as you can head in either direction from here on and find mine stacks and coastal paths to explore. Heading south, a little closer to nearby Trewellard is Geevor Tin Mine, hard to miss with the statue of a miner standing near the roadside. Geevor mine stretches down closer to the sea's edge but the museum and outside remnants of the mine are perfect to discover how Cornwall built it's wonderful and unique heritage.
