October Half Term in St Ives
Check October Half Term Availability:
As the schools return after the summer break, family time is once again squeezed between clubs and after school hobbies. So, if you're already yearning for some quality family time why not consider a half term holiday to St Ives?
October is an idyllic time to visit the Cornish coast, boasting more dramatic scenery than the summer months and a perfect climate to get outdoors and explore.
At this time of year, you're less likely to default to the beach everyday but the weather is still on side and it's a great opportunity to get out and explore Cornwall. Perusing local boutiques and whiling away sleepy afternoons in cosy cafes may sound blissful enough, but if you have little ones to entertain it may be advantageous to look further afield. Bringing your own means of transport is completely stress free with our designated parking, which provides the luxury to come and go as you please.
Surfing in St Ives
Catch the last of the autumnal swell with surf lessons with St Ives Surf School, located on Porthmeor Beach. Offering private and group lessons through to the end of October this is the perfect opportunity to unleash your inner adrenaline junkie as you master the waves and learn a new skill on your holiday.
Family days out
The Eden Project makes for a fun and informative day out for everyone - formerly a china clay pit, it is now home to huge Biomes, one of which houses the largest rainforest in captivity. There is also a Mediterranean Biome, an adventure playground, a ‘breathing’ sculpture as well as a range of exhilarating adrenalin activities at Hangloose Adventure Eden Project. Hangloose activities must be booked in advance. The Eden Project is a little over an hour's drive away but well worth the trip.
For another day, or perhaps for a good alternative closer to home, try Heartlands. You will find it just over a 20-minute drive away in Pool. The cultural centre is family friendly, free and set on a 19-acre site. Here you'll find everything from art galleries to an adventure playground complete with tunnels and a shipwrecked boat. There is a totem circle of twelve poles decorated with hieroglyphics waiting to be deciphered as well as the Diaspora Botanical Gardens, which tell the story of foreign lands visited by Cornish people, the plants they took with them as well the ones that came home with them and soon began to thrive in our rich soil and mild temperature.
On wheels
If there’s space to bring the bikes or scooters in the car, there are many great spots just a short drive from St Ives that are perfect for tiring out little legs. Our family favourites include King George Memorial Walk in Hayle, the Marazion to Penzance Coastal route and the recently refurbished Penzance Promenade – there’s also a great selection of cafes and restaurants on route to stop for a delicious homemade cake or light lunch along the way.
Whether you're looking forward to a luxurious retreat or an action-packed break, Sail Lofts luxury apartments make an ideal base for your adventures.
