St Ives Food and Drink Festival 2018
As we approach the end of April and move further in to the warmer days of May we have a number of things to look forward to on the events calendar, one of which is the St Ives Food and Drink Festival. Celebrating all that is Cornish cuisine and featuring a host of top chefs and a full lineup of live music. The event's popularity has event allowed it to extend on for another day this year stretching out on Porthminster Beach from Friday the 11th of May into the later hours of Sunday the 13th.
The year the event features demonstrations from a whole host of talents chefs from around the country including Masterchef 2018 winning Jane Devonshire and 2013 Great British Bakeoff winner Frances Quinn. More local however the event features local chef's from around the county and within St Ives itself. Ben Tunnicliffe of The Tolcarne Inn and Ben Tunnicliffe Sennen Cove is alongside Michael Smith of the Porthminster Kitchen and head chef Grant Nethercott of Alba. The event is a fantastic portrayal of Cornwall's unique culinary scene as each chef puts on a display on the demonstration stage.
Couple this display of Cornish cuisine with the beach and live music and you really have little reason to leave the sands of Porthminster for the whole weekend. Live acts such as Sandy Acre 7 and The Correspondents headline the event which again features a plethora of Cornish talent such as St Ives based singer/songwriter Bailey Tomkinson. Porthminster Beach, where the three day event is taking place is only a short walk from the Sail Lofts luxury apartments in St Ives, through the town and onto the sands of Porthminster itself.
If of course you'd like to have something to take away from the event then why not indulge in some of the Cornish Artisan stalls marketing everything from chutneys to chocolate and a cornucopia of other treats from Cornwall. The St Ives Food and Drink Festival 2018 is perfect to discover parts of Cornish culture and cuisine you've never thought or seen beforehand and enjoy the weather on the beach on the midst of a blissful, sunny May weekend.
