St Ives weekend getaway
So you are planning a short break and have 48 hours in St Ives, staying at the Sail Lofts luxury self catering accommodation in St Ives, and you are wondering what would be the best way to get the most out of the precious minutes in what could be considered one of Cornwall’s top destinations…
So you want to make sure you fit as much as possible in to your Saturday, so I would recommend a pit stop for breakfast at Porthgwidden Café, located just a few moments up the road from the Sail Lofts luxury apartments this Café has the best English fry up to fuel you through your day, with a stunning view across St Ives Bay towards Godrevy Lighthouse to soak up whilst you dine.
Moving on with a balmy morning, we recommend stowing aboard one of St Ives’s many boat experiences, whether you fancy running out and getting mackerel for your supper, or even spying the St Ives seals in their local cove along the coast. It is a great way to see St Ives, as the many mariners did whilst sailing on strong westward winds in to this historic port, which in the past has seen many calamitous and dramatic shipwrecks and stranding’s.
Should the weather take a turn for the worst, we can happily boast that St Ives’s many streets, alleys and harbour front are home to a multitude of wonderful boutique independent shops, Cornish fashion chains, and galleries to enjoy at your leisure, open throughout the year.
The diversity of galleries epitomises why St Ives is the home of art in the south-west, starting with Tate St Ives built upon the towns former gas works with jaw dropping views of the sea encapsulated within its observatory, rivaling any works by Riley, Wallis or Hepworth herself, to the quirky smaller galleries in the towns high-street.
I personally love the collection of artworks and artists held in the New Craftsman, you get a real feel for the best work created by Cornish artists here in the south west, all of which are at the top of their game in terms of the creation of work, should you be looking to invest in a keepsake from St Ives, look no further than treating yourself on their Buy Art scheme making any masterpiece an affordable luxury.
On your Sunday head west, no joke, the Sail Lofts luxury apartments come with complimentary car parking for a reason, get out and enjoy this staggering part of coastline, home to pirates, smugglers and Poldark of course! Should you feel adventurous you can walk, but this part of coastline is rather challenging and not for the faint of heart, so I personally enjoy driving the coastal route, and popping out to admire the many remains left from Cornwall’s industrial past and mining fore-fathers.
We highly recommend a pit stop at the Tinner’s Arms for a tasty Sunday afternoon treat, before forging on along the coastal route which rounds off in Penzance and will bring you back in a tidy circuit back round to St Ives via the A30.
