February half-term fun…

Kelly Weaver

With February half term just around the corner, we look forward to the joys the first school holiday of the year brings. Offering the chance to explore St Ives, and indeed Cornwall, with fewer crowds, February half term is perfect for those who don’t mind the wilder of St Ives.

If you’re visiting over the half term period, we have rounded up a few of our favourite activities to keep the family smiling all week long. If you're still in search of your ideal family holiday, click here to view our remaining availability.

Beach Days

On those mild winter days there is plenty of fun to be had in and out of the water. Beach games, surfing and even sand castle competitions are always popular winter activities. Wetsuit hire and surfing lessons will be available from St Ives Surf School, located on Porthmeor Beach, throughout the half term week and if you’re staying in one of luxury St Ives cottages this February half-term, you’re only a skip, hop and a jump from a hot shower to warm you up afterwards.

Local Walks

With miles of coastal paths spanning in both directions, a family walk is a must if visiting St Ives over the February half term. A firm favourite amongst the team is the coastal path from St Ives to Carbis Bay. A fairly easy route with just one steep incline, this route offers wonderful views across the bay and takes around 45 minutes each way. Once you reach Carbis Bay why not stop off at the beach café and grab a hot chocolate before heading back to St Ives for a spot of late lunch. If you’re up for a challenge, the St Ives to Zennor walk is a great way to fill the day. It’s roughly 6 miles to Zennor where you can either hop on a bus to return to St Ives, or opt for the circular inland walk which adds another 6 miles to your hike.

Leach Pottery St Ives

If you have budding creatives in the family, the Leach Pottery’s half term workshops may be just the ticket for an afternoon of creativity. Offering ‘Clay Puzzle’ and ‘Young Potter’s Throwing’ workshops throughout the half term, these sessions are a wonderful introduction to clay throwing, painting and pressing. For more information on any of these sessions and the Leach Pottery’s wider family programme, please click here.

Eden Project

A guaranteed fun-filled day for all, the Eden Project is a bit of a drive from St Ives but is well worth the effort. This February half term, Eden is partnering with the team behind Tom Gates, the popular book and TV series by author and illustrator Liz Pichon, to host an amazing half-term programme bursting with creativity, colour, fun and imagination. What’s even better is that this February half term, kids go free (terms and conditions do apply so please check the website for full terms). For further information, click here.

Penwith Pitch and Putt

Offering pitch and putt, crazy golf and football golf all in one location, this is an excellent choice for some competitive family games. Just a short 15-minute drive from your St Ives self-catering and with plenty of free parking, this is a great choice for an afternoon of fun (it’s one of our personal favourites). There’s also a café onsite as well as a play area for smaller children.

If you’re visiting St Ives this February half-term, we hope you have a wonderful time!
