"Fancy Dress Surfing Bonanza"
An annual surfing contest with a twist. Taking place on 30th June, the Swellboard Shootout sees the community coming together and having a great time while raising both money and awareness for organisations that help others and our planet. Organised by St Ives Surf School, the Shootout is sure to put smiles on faces and Porthmeor Beach is all but on the doorstep of your luxury apartment in St Ives.
Support a great cause and join spectators on the beach as teams of 4 from all around the county gather for a day of sea follies in fancy dress! The annual event is now in its 8th year and truly embodies what surfing is all about: enjoying the sea with your friends and family. On this basis, points will awarded for strong fancy dress, flamboyance and particularly fancy footwork rather than just skill alone.
Sunday Parade
The day will commence at 10am sharp with contestants embarking on their annual fancy dress parade through town - a sight to behold - before heading back to Porthmeor Beach for the Shootout. Once in the sea teams will catch waves in heats and only when each team member has caught a wave can the whole team paddle back out and catch the same wave back to shore in unison.
In Aid of Surfers Against Sewage
The entire event is run by volunteers from St Ives Surf School along with the local surfing community and all contestants' fees go directly to charity. Surfers Against Sewage does an incredible amount to tackle plastic pollution, protecting our coastlines in order for us all to continue enjoying them safely and sustainably.
As a local business we're taking steps to reduce as many single use plastics as we can with the aim of becoming a Surfer's Against Sewage 'Plastics Free Champion'.
